A nod to Ron’s former band, Power Of Attorney and their breakout single “Changing Man” which inspired the uptempo groove and sweet flute part. Hinting at the classic Philly Soul style, there are lush strings and as an added bonus the impactful and powerful message delivered by Philadelphia poet Ursula Rucker.

about
New music from Philadelphia’s recently rediscovered soul powerhouse Ron Aikens and his backing band the Hip Tones is a soon-to-be classic double sider. Following in the traditional “soul 45 rpm” single format, a sweet ballad side with a funk side on the flip. Here is the first physical release from the forthcoming LP “Ron And The Hip Tones”. The lowrider soul feel on “Tear On My Chin '' comes from a brainstorming session with Ron, producer P. Maxwell Ochester, and the two main songwriters Dave Cope & Fred Berman. It tackles heartache, pain, and loss coupled with the slow grinding groove only true heartache can produce.
lyrics
Tear on My Chin
Ooooh Ooh Ooh (tear on my chin) Oooh Oooh Oooh (tear on my chin)
Ooooh Ooh Ooh (tear on my chin) Oooh Oooh Oooh (tear on my chin)
The love we watched blossom and grow
Now its all over, (I have) nowhere to go
When you said goodbye my world fell apart
I never can fill this hole in my heart
Don’t even know where to begin
All I have left is this tear on my chin
Ooooh Ooh Ooh (tear on my chin) Oooh Oooh Oooh (tear on my chin)
Ooooh Ooh Ooh (tear on my chin) Oooh Oooh Oooh (tear on my chin)
I had your back when you did that bid
I even helped raise your kids
Then you hit the lotto, there was no doubt
You were in the money and I was ou
What you did to me was a sin
All I have left is this tear on my chin
Ooooh Ooh Ooh (tear on my chin) Oooh Oooh Oooh (tear on my chin)
Ooooh Ooh Ooh (tear on my chin) Oooh Oooh Oooh (tear on my chin)
You took me for granted played me (for) a fool
And I never thought you could be/act so cruel
I gave you my heart and I gave you my soul
When we were together I gave you my all
Don’t even know where to begin
What you did to me was a sin
You Left Me With No More To Give
Ooooh Ooh Ooh (tear on my chin) Oooh Oooh Oooh (tear on my chin)
Ooooh Ooh Ooh (tear on my chin) Oooh Oooh Oooh (tear on my chin)

The music is alive and very symbolic of Ron Aikens' life, evolution, and perspective. His newfound interest in his own music
perhaps encouraged him to make one more swing at a dream that goes back nearly three-quarters of a century. "I'm here. I'm breathing," he says in a West Philly coffee shop with a smile and wide eyes. "I ain't gone yet. If I'm gonna breathe, I need to sing!"...more
